SUG operates in the natural gas gathering, processing, transmission and distribution industries – related, yet distinct, businesses. The company owns and/or operates more than 15,000 miles of interstate natural gas pipelines serving wholesale natural gas customers in major U.S. markets, approximately 4,600 miles of gathering pipelines and also serves more than half a million natural gas end-user customers through its utility operating divisions. In addition, SUG owns and operates one of the nation’s largest liquefied natural gas import terminals. Following are brief descriptions of each major SUG division and subsidiary:

Southern Union Gas Services
 
  • SUG natural gas and natural gas liquids gathering and processing subsidiary
  • Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas
  • Primarily operates approximately 4,600 miles of pipelines, with four cryogenic plants and six natural gas treating plants
  • Primary activities include gathering, treating, processing and transporting natural gas and natural gas liquids to a variety of markets
  • Primary customers include power generating companies, utilities, energy marketers and industrial users located primarily in the Southwestern U.S.

  • Lake Charles, La.- based unit of Panhandle Energy
